Hi Tara!

If you've had blood work done and a doctor has indicated that you are deficient, then 5000 I.U. would be fine. In fact, Ive heard of doctor's prescribing far higher amounts for Vit D deficiency.

If I don't eat any of the foods that naturally contain Vitamin D (other than my skim latte in the morning) and I already know I am very deficient (via bloodwork) should I be concerned that my Dietitian has me taking 5000 IU a day? (which is obviously above the 4000 IU upper limit recommended in the article)

Some do not realize but, vitamin D is a great supplement to take as proper supplementation prevents you from feeling ill as frequent, especially if you are prone to a lot of allergies.
Hiral,

Thanks for reading! Starchy carbs are the most common culprit in over eating. It is not difficult to mindlessly eat 2 cups of rice. Instead, focus your Mon-Fri meals on fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and protein. Of course, fruit has carbohydrates just like rice, yet fruit comes with significant amounts of fiber and water, making it more difficult to over eat. Not to mention that 1 cup of dry rice is about the carb equivalent of 2 large apples, a banana and an orange. Remember this: carbohydrates are FUEL, and when you are trying to lose fat, you want your fuel resources at a minimum. Excess fuel = fat. So fill up on the other “macronutrients”, like fat (olive oil, avocado, almonds, etc.) and protein (chicken, eggs, fish, etc.)

Hope this helps!

"Leave starchy carbs for the weekend only. This includes cereal, rice, potatoes, bread, pasta and nearly all snack foods."
Please explain how this will aid in fat loss and also what would a person eat on the weekdays if they ate the foods you listed only for the weekends? Thank you.

Hey Ian,

Thanks for this post. My supplier's price for Whey Protein Isolate just skyrocketed to over $12/lb so I am looking at trueprotein.com.

Question: Why not go 100% Whey Protein Concentrate? I don't think there's too much loss in protein per gram, and it's much cheaper.

Thanks, and hope all's well in MA. -Kevin

I wonder if grinding up flaxseeds and adding them to the Power Butter when you use it (like on carrots or celery or something) would affect the taste/texture much. Then you might get the extra benefit of them after all. Just a thought :)
